Description: Scroll, mounted on board, ink and colour on paper, 137.5 x 47 cm. Inscribed and signed, with two seals of the artist. Further inscribed by Zhang YaomingCatalogue note: Born in Shanghai, Ji Kang was raised in a literati family and moved to Taiwan in 1947. Since an early age, he studied painting with his uncle, Ji Shouzheng, a painter who was renowned for his calligraphy and paintings of plum blossoms. Ji learnt from ancient paintings and excelled especially in painting court ladies, horses and flowers and birds. Ji’s paintings were highly acclaimed and were exhibited in the room when the late President Chiang Kai-Shek hosted foreign diplomats. The artist died in 2007.
